Pfizer has agreed to pay £1.3bn (£8.3bn) to settle claims filed in U. K. state court over claims made by a British company that it sells Viagra.
Pfizer, the world's biggest pharmaceutical company, has agreed to pay £1.3bn (£8.3bn) in the United Kingdom to settle allegations that it illegally marketed and sold prescription drugs without FDA approval.
The allegations in the complaint were made in the first count of the suit. The suit was brought against Mylan Pharmaceuticals UK Ltd, Pfizer's patent-protected pharmaceutical company, who was based in Bristol.
Pfizer will pay the UK government $15.2bn (£1.5bn) to settle a class-action complaint brought by former UK PM David Cameron.
Mylan has agreed to pay $1.3bn (£9.2bn) to settle the case, according to a press release.
Pfizer said it had no plans to make any payments to the UK government, and that it "will continue to market and sell prescription drugs under the trade name Viagra".
The pharmaceutical company said it had "consistently" marketed and sold Viagra without the FDA approval, but the move would "cause serious and continuing harm".
Mylan said it was "not surprised" by the settlement, adding that it was "reassuring" that the companies had "already received information from the FDA about the risk of adverse events".
Pfizer said that the company had received "greater confidence" in its product and its "current success", and that it "has the experience and knowledge to ensure that it is a safe and effective product".
It is expected to pay $6.2bn (£4.6bn) to settle the case and settle further class-action claims brought by a group of plaintiffs.
The company said it had "already received information" from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) about the drug's risk of adverse events.
It said that the "data and reports" were "generally sufficient to allow appropriate regulatory action".
Mylan said that it was "reassuring" that the company had "already received information" from the FDA, but was "reassuring" that it had not yet received any data from it.
The company said it had received "greater confidence" in its product and its "current success", and had "already received information" from the FDA.
The UK's Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) was responsible for monitoring the company's operations, and was responsible for its marketing and sales.
MHRA said that the company had been "reviewing the current information received from the FDA and other regulatory authorities and was working closely with the MHRA to identify any further changes in the product information, as well as the company's planned marketing strategies".
Mylan said that it had been in contact with the MHRA and the company's marketing team, which were working on the product, for a number of years, but that the company "continuously communicated with the MHRA."
Mylan said that the company had been advised by its patent-protected subsidiary, Pharmacia, to continue producing its active pharmaceutical ingredient, Viagra, in the UK and to continue its manufacturing process.
It was also advised by Pharmacia to market the drug in the UK and that it would be prepared to make payments to the government for this.
Pfizer said that the UK's Department of Health had received information from the FDA about the risk of adverse events.
The company said that the company had been advised by the MHRA to update its management "to include any further changes in product information, to update the management as soon as possible, and to update the company's management as soon as possible".
Mylan said that it had not received any information about the risk of adverse events from the company.
Pfizer said that the company had received "greater confidence" in its product and its "current success", and had "already received information" from the FDA.
The company said that the company was "reassuring" that its products and services were "complying with regulatory requirements and the MHRA's guidance and advice to patients".

(0).The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has confirmed that the erectile dysfunction medication sildenafil (Viagra) is legal in the UK.
The MHRA said that the erectile dysfunction medication is “complying with the Code of the General Pharmaceutical Council’s Practice Fee (PGP) and has been fully assessed by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA)”.
The MHRA said that sildenafil is “not suitable for individuals under the age of 18”.
The MHRA is notifying the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and the Department of Health (DASH) of the legalities of sildenafil’s use in individuals with erectile dysfunction.
“This is particularly important given that the erectile dysfunction medication sildenafil is a medication used to treat erectile dysfunction in adult males,” it said.
The MHRA added that the use of sildenafil can be associated with a “significant adverse reaction” to the medication.
